Fear is the opposite of faith. The Bible says the just shall live by faith. It means life cannot be lived in fear. It is highly comforting to know that God is able to guide, protect and provide for us at this critical point in time.
Rom. 15; 13 says:
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Absolute faith in Jesus Christ and deep trust in his word give full joy and peace. On the other hand, fear takes away joy and peace. Fear brings torment, worry, anxiety, uncertainty, frustration, discomfort, confusion, sadness, hopelessness and many more vices with sicknesses that defy medication. All these are the direct works of the devil.
Fear destroys the essence of living. It takes life out of its victim. This is what Satan wants to achieve by filling the entire world with an unprecedented spate of wickedness. In all nations today, the degree of human depravity is at its peak. We are all exposed to the evil perpetrated through the kidnappers, armed robbers, suicide bombers, rapists, selfish and wicked leaders, and all manner of other vices. The devil wants everybody to live in fear. He is a liar! The all-knowing God knew that perilous times will come. That is why He warned us in many pages of the Bible to FEAR NOT. With all the uncertainties out there God is able to keep us from all evil and give us the peace that passes all understanding.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7
In Matthew 6:34, Jesus acknowledged the fact that each day carries its own evil. He knew there will always be wicked and unreasonable men in this world. To overcome this, he provided us the daily mercy we need to counter the evil of the day.
“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” Lam 3:22-23.
The good news is, before the devil plans the evil for the day, God, through His compassion would have released the mercy that will give us the victory we need for that day. There is no need to be afraid in the midst of terrible happenings. All we need is a closer walk with God. Do not enter any day without Christ. Start each day with Christ and overcome the day’s crisis. Fear not. Jesus says he is with us always. He is there to protect us therefore do not be afraid. Remember the bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
In times like this, every Christian must trust in the fact stated in Psalm 37:23
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way”.
God will not allow you to walk into the hands of the destroyer. When you wake up in the morning do not be in a hurry to jump out without praying. Take time to read God’s word and claim His promises for you for each day. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. He will guide and direct your steps unto victory. Fear not.
I want us to learn from King David how he gave himself peace when he was confronted with dangerous and life threatening situations. He said in Psalm 23:4
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me”.
I know that these days, as we carry out our daily businesses in the midst of suicide bombers, armed robbers and kidnappers, it is like walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But just like David said, we should “fear no evil”. Can you imagine that king Saul with the whole army of the entire country was pursuing only one man-David? As king Saul laid down his strategy each day to kill little David, the compassion of God on David provided the mercy that gave him the needed protection for that day. Do not forget that God’s mercy is new every morning. Even when king Saul entered the same cave where David was hiding, God’s mercy still covered him. The protection of God was so strong on David that with all of king Saul’s military might, he could not do him any harm. Every child of God today should enjoy the same grace that David enjoyed. There is therefore no need to live in fear.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways”.
There is no need to allow fear to rob you of your joy. Enjoy your life in Christ every day. You are secure in him. I have been attacked by armed robbers many times. They shot me on the head once but God prevented my skull from being broken. The protective power of God over his children is real. After the incident, the devil knowing that he could not kill me tried to put fear in me but I made up my mind not to live my life in fear. I consciously determined not to be afraid of anything. Whatever you have gone through in the past, your being alive is an evidence that God kept you from destruction. So, why should you be afraid? Fear not.
In closing, I would like to enjoin you to give your life to Jesus today because He alone can save. In Him, our peace, joy, protection and victory are guaranteed as we hand over our lives to him and walk in His will. Outside of Him there is no safety.
I leave you with these scriptures.
“The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.” Psalm 89:22
This is one of God’s promises to us at a time like this. The enemy here and the sons of wickedness stand for satan and his cohorts. Both the human agents and the institutions that the devil is using to kill innocent people and bring sorrow into people’s lives are being referred to here. The bible says they will not exact upon us. The word exact, means to force, to command, insist, demand, necessitate, call for, take, require and many more. God will not allow the sons of wickedness to take our lives or put us under any pressure in Jesus name. We shall never be under their command neither shall they succeed in afflicting us in Jesus name. Fear not. God is on your side. He will fight for you and you shall hold your peace.
I will advise you to compile some scriptures on protection and chew them daily. Always be where you ought to be and you can be sure of God’s covering over you. So, fear not.
